Course Description
This qualification reflects the role of solid plasterers working in the building and construction industry. Individuals applying plaster finishes to internal and external surfaces of residential and commercial buildings.
Course Structure
In order to achieve qualification CPC31020 – Certificate III in Solid Plastering, student must complete following 20 units of competencies.

This will be delivered over 61 Weeks of course duration including 51 weeks delivery plus 10 Weeks holidays. Students will be required to attend minimum 20 hours per week of study to deliver required volume of learning.

  • Minimum 18 Years of age
  • Year 11 or Equivalent of Australian Education
  • IELTS score – 6.0
  • PTR (pre training review)
  • LLN test prior to enrolment
Age Requirement
Students must be above 18 years of age while filling up the college application form.
Academic requirements
CPC31020 Certificate III in Solid Plastering: To enter into this course delivered at Melbourne Trades College, Applicants should have minimum completed Australian senior secondary school examination (year 11) or equivalent.
English level requirement for international students
Minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or PTE score of 52 or its equivalent. For equivalency of various English Languages proficiency testing, and other forms of equivalency please refer to the Enrolment policy and procedure available on the MTC website or MTC student handbook online.
PTR and LLN Requirement
Students must complete a Pre-Training Review and successfully complete a LLN test to confirm the ability to effectively undertake the course.
Pre – Training Review (PTR)
Melbourne Trades College will assess the learner’s needs by conducting a PTR. PTR will be conducted prior to enrolment to review student’s current competencies, student needs, English level, and support requirements including their oral communication skills, in order to enrol them in the most appropriate course to achieve their intended outcomes. Applicants are required to fill up the PTR form along with the application form and answer all the questions in a true and correct manner.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy test (LLN)
Students undertaking the course must possess sound Numeracy skills since it requires them to do calculations or any other course related work. To determine this, all students wanting to study at Melbourne Trades College are required to undertake a LLN Test prior to the commencement of the course. Based on the test outcome, students may be identified as requiring internal support and/or external support. LLN test will be conducted on campus by using an ACSF mapped online LLN assessment tool – LLN Robot – under the supervision of qualified LLN assessor. The required performance level for CPC31020 – Certificate III in Solid Plastering is ACSF Level 3.
Computer literacy requirement
All students enrolling into Melbourne Trades College programs must have basic computer skills. Students are required to fill in the questions related to computer and internet skills in the Pre-Training Review form attached along the application form. Students who do not possess basic computing skills will be provided with basic computer using support. Physical Fitness
Student must have physical attributes suitable for working in the automotive industry that encompasses manual handling of equipment including lifting and carrying heavy objects within scope of safe working practices (i.e., removing and fitting engine electrical components and parts).

Assessment Methods
Assessment will usually commence once training has begun. As this is a competency-based program, assessment continues throughout the program until the participant either achieves competency in the assessment tasks or a further training need is identified and addressed. Students will be required to perform in a range of assessment tasks including and not limited to knowledge questions in the form of written assessments and being observed demonstrating assessment tasks.
Vocational Pathways
Students exiting the qualification may choose to progress with further studies by undertaking one or more of the following qualifications: • CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction
Employment/Career pathway
The course, CPC31020 – Certificate III in Solid Plastering is considered a trade course, upon successful completion of the course and nationally recognised qualification is issued. Students are provided with advice on employment and further training options throughout the delivery of the program.

If a student is granted with RPL or course credit, Melbourne Trades College will give a written record of the decision to the overseas student to accept and will retain the written record of acceptance and payment receipts for two years after the overseas student ceases to be an accepted student. If student is granted with RPL or course credit which will reduce overseas student’s length course,

  • Students will be informed of the reduced course duration following granting of RPL and ensure the confirmation of enrolment (COE) is issued only for the reduced duration of the course.
  • Any changes in course duration will be reported in PRISMS, if RPL or course credit is granted after the overseas student visa is granted.
